"Is a killer worth more than the crime he commits?" I am hesitant to put a price tag on a persons life. Yet, I don't like the concept of a life prison term. It doesn't make any sense to me. As I said before it seems like a way to move the problem into another system that is not in my back yard...irresponsible.

"What is wrong with revenge?" I know people who justify revenge, some of them through religion. I have been disappointed many times by this. Vengeance implies the exacting of a pound of flesh for a pound of hurt. Revenge is driven by strong emotions. The vengeful person often inflicts harm on innocents in the process of exacting revenge. They frequently have a short fuse and either hit the wrong target all together or use nuclear power to take care of a mosquito.

In my "personal" belief system I account for eternal justice. I know that some people get what appears to be a raw deal during their life time and some people get away with ...well, murder. I believe there is more to life than this life and that perfect justice exists in the long run.

My justification for the death penalty is that there are crimes that we as a society are not able to deal with. Well, unless you think prison with no hope for rehabilitation or parole is dealing with it...I don't.

If you don't believe in eternity then put the miserable SOB out of his misery, its the compassionate thing for everyone to do. If you do believe in eternity, then some people have definitely gone beyond the limits of what can be tolerated in human society...so, send them to what ever is next and be done with them. Its not vengence its just a logical course of action.

The rest of the questions take care of them selves. The question of cost (don't worry about it). The question of what kind of life should we make for this person (don't worry about it). The question of how much hurt he should get for the hurt he's given (done). In these questions there are no right amounts or avenues to take that ever show equitable justice.

b'sides, there's that haunting quote, "Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord." Just let the guy go and claim his just deserts.
