Scott,

Good points. You can get today 1 GB (4 x 256 MB) of Registered ECC DDR SDRAM for $344 (4 x $86) from Crucial. It would be nice if Micron released 512MB DIMMs, but unfortunatley, with 128Mbit chips, 256MB is all that can be done. > 256 MB will need 256Mbit or the DIMMs will need to be double high, with 36 chips.

But anyway, a server with 1 GB of RAM, and with this level of performance, which outperform just about all Intel based 2-way servers opens the door to smaller OEMs to sell some boxes, while Compaq, IBM and HP are hesitating. It would be nice to get at least NEC and Seimens / Fujitsu design wins, and maybe some smaller European vendors. Even ALR / Gateway would be nice, since they are so lost in the server market that any change would be an improvement.
