"Usually people that don't believe in the after life are pro-abortion and anti-death penalty."

I don't think it is as much "anti-death" as not wanting to make ultimate life and death decisions. None of us are comfortable with passing judgement on a persons life. I think it is built in but it is also a religious precept for the believers. So, according to the guidelines I gave I don't see us as having the final word on the judgement of the person's life.

If you don't believe there is an after life and judgement then it puts you in a very difficult position when considering the death penalty. To agree to it would be giving human society too much power. That presumes you have someone else or an external system to send heinous criminals to. Which does exist.
