I think it has more to do with JC's (I believe) suggestion that SPEC is a very difficult benchmark to do. Note that Anand's SPEC benchmarks are lower than the ones Intel released for the P4. He was probably trying to be as objective as possible and wound up catching a lot of flack for his efforts. Benchmarking, if done right, is a very difficult chore. It is no wonder that the ones who put the most effort into it, have some major bucks waved under their noses to do it. Which sorta kinda neutralizes it...
