Grey Matter to Utilise Macrovision's SafeCast ESD Solution for Secure Software Download

LONDON, Jun 5, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Macrovision UK Ltd, a subsidiary of Macrovision Corporation of Sunnyvale, California (Nasdaq: MVSN chart, msgs), the world leader in software copy protection and DRM (digital rights management) technologies, announced today that UK-based Grey Matter, a leading independent supplier of software to software developers, will license Macrovision's SafeCast DRM technology to enable online software purchasing from the Grey Matter web site.

Macrovision's SafeCast DRM software will be used to sell software development tools from www.greymatter.com. Once downloaded, users will be taken through various web screens that capture registration details for online credit card payment. The purchased software is then made available to the customer for immediate use without the need to ship a box or a manual.

"The Grey Matter web site is a key resource for our customers who will now have immediate access to a vast range of software applications," commented Phil Butcher, Managing Director of Grey Matter. "From a customer's perspective, our secure download capability is very attractive in allowing an application to be procured and made available in double quick time without having to wait for postal delivery, making the software purchasing and deployment easier and more cost effective," concluded Phil Butcher.

Paul Stevens, Sales Executive of Macrovision UK stated, "Grey Matter leads the field as a provider of software development tools and have an extensive catalogue of software titles. Many of the titles are likely to be required immediately by their customers, which will make this new channel very expedient. I look forward to working with Grey Matter, as ESD becomes a key part of their business."

Macrovision's SafeCast ESD solution offers a number of immediate concrete benefits to software publishers and resellers:

Faster Time To Market - Products and services can be produced,
distributed and consumed in a single digital supply chain from
centralised points of control.

New Revenue Sources - More flexible licensing capabilities enable
new licensing transactions (try, buy, rent, subscribe, etc.) that
have previously been impossible with physical distribution models.

Lower Operation Costs, Better Predictability - Inventory is always
available "Just in Time" with nominal set-up, fixed, and variable
costs.

Limitless Shelf Space - There is unlimited room to keep stock of
popular products as well as more specialised classic products.

Better Customer Service at a Lower Price - Consumers have access
to any product at any time, at their convenience.

Lower Cost of Sales and Higher Yields - With digital, publishers
can target their marketing and sales efforts to proven consumers
and build predictable recurring revenue streams based upon brand
and identity. They can also engage these customers in ongoing
dialogs to learn and focus their product development more
accurately on a real-time basis.

It is more environmentally friendly and reduces the need for both
boxes and expensive transport costs.

Always secure and safe.
