UN resolutions, UN smesolutions....

Who cares what the UN thinks?? Most members of the UN are more tyrannical than nations they condemn. They are just international political pressure group, who care less about governing the globe under democratic ideals than protecting their own corruption.

Look at East Jerusalem since the Israelis occupied the West Bank (after been attacked by Jordan in 1967). During the period after Jordan invaded, OCCUPIED AND ANNEXED, the West Bank, Jews were denied access to the old city. They couldn't worship at the wailing wall. They were denied the ability to worship at their sacred tombs, or to play a part in the West Bank's administration.

But the Israelis opened up the old city TO EVERYONE. They permitted muslims to pray at the dome of the rock, despite the fact that it was built upon the foundation of the Jewish 2nd temple of Solomon (the wailing wall). They built the local economy and integrated it into the Israeli economy, benefitting EVERYONE, including the poor Palestinians who had economically suffered under Jordanian rule.

And one has to emphasize again... The only nation that ever fully annexed the West Bank into their own country has been Jordan. Israel has never annexed it, though they have obviously discussed doing so.

So since the Arabs have a substantial track record of desecrating Jewish shrines and religious sites, as well as denying Jewish access to those sites, it seems to me that the logical reaction of the Israelis is to maintain their control over the city. Afterall, their ancestors built the place thousands of years ago, so there exists some historical claim.

Just look at Saudi Arabia.. No "infidel" is permitted to approach within 30 kilometers of Mecca, so holy is that city to Islam. Thus, there's no guarantee that Muslims wouldn't attempt the same thing for the dome of the rock.

This is not about "right and wrong" Gustave (or Rassouli, or whatever you call yourself) and you know that. It's about power and sheer national will. The Israelis versus the Palestinians, both competing to control a city which is holy to every major western and semitic religion.

Personally, the city should be placed under international control, to prevent either side from using it as a tool for their own political purposes. But the UN doesn't want to touch such a political and religious hot potatoe.
