CoSine Communications and Check Point Team to Deliver Integrated VPN And Firewall Services From Within the Service Provider's Network

Partnership Enables Service Providers to Offer the Widest Array Of Network-based, Brand-Name Security Services Available on the Market Today

ATLANTA, SUPERCOMM, June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- CoSine Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: COSN - news), a leading provider of managed, network-based IP Service Delivery Platforms for Service Providers, today announced a partnership with Check Point Software Technologies (Nasdaq: CHKP - news), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, to deliver the industry's market-leading VPN and firewall solutions from within the Service Provider's network (see related Check Point announcement ``Check Point Software Breaks New Ground with Subscriber VPN/Security Solutions''). The combined offering is the first network-based solution to give Service Providers a choice of branded security services, enabling them to offer corporate customers the security alternative that best suits their unique business requirements.

As part of the ``Secured By Check Point'' Initiative, CoSine will integrate the Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1® software with CoSine's IPSX(TM) Service Processing Switch, a component of the IP Service Delivery Platform. The IPSX, powered by CoSine's open IP Network Operating System (IPNOS(TM)), enables Service Providers to offer thousands of instances of Check Point's VPN-1/FireWall-1® from within the edge of the Service Provider's network. Because the Check Point solutions will integrate directly with IPNOS, Service Providers will receive regular updates as security enhancements are added to the software.

Powerful Partnership for Maximizing Service Provider Revenue

CoSine and Check Point will be integrating their security software on the IPSX, enabling Service Providers to dramatically reduce the capital and operational expenditures associated with deploying stand-alone pieces of hardware on a per-subscriber basis. Additionally, the CoSine/Check Point solution gives Service Providers the flexibility to scale and expand their service offerings as their corporate customers add more sites and require new security offerings.

``We are pleased that CoSine has joined the 'Secured by Check Point Initiative,''' said Asheem Chandna, vice president of business development and product management for Check Point Software Technologies. ``The CoSine/Check Point combined solution will provide customers with a 'best-of-breed,' high-density solution for deploying subscriber-based VPNs and security.''

Check Point's Secure Virtual Network (SVN) architecture is independent of all Service Provider environments, enabling Service Providers to deliver managed security services for both network-based and Customer Premises Equipment (CPE)-based models. When coupled with the CoSine platform in a network-based model, this solution provides a scalable implementation for satisfying the security requirements of Service Providers around the globe.

``We are pleased to offer Service Providers yet another market-leading application service from our IP Service Delivery Platform,'' said Steve Goggiano, president of CoSine Communications. ``The CoSine/Check Point relationship is significant because it allows us to continue to expand on what is already the most complete set of network-based security solutions available from any company to date. It further validates that the most powerful solution for deploying services such as firewalls and VPNs is based on an open architecture. It is this open architecture that enables us to keep pace with our customers' evolving demand for the best third-party applications available on the market today.''

Extending Security to IDCs and Ethernet MANs

Service Providers can most immediately leverage these best-of-breed security solutions in Internet Data Centers (IDCs) and Ethernet Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) environments. In the past, IDC providers that wanted to secure enterprise applications with a firewall or VPN service were forced to deploy racks of independent hardware with individual security appliances. With a network-based solution, Service Providers can now offer virtualized VPN and firewall services for each subscriber seeking access to hosted applications. Because no additional investment is required in the data center, Service Providers are able to reduce the operational and capital expense associated with deploying additional hardware.

Similarly, in an Ethernet MAN environment, Service Providers could deploy an IPSX switch with a FireWall-1 service to provide enterprises with secure high-speed access out of an MAN environment to the Internet. With a network-based firewall solution, Service Providers can reduce the time it takes to provision and manage the service -- enabling them to immediately deploy the service to their customers.

About CoSine's IP Service Delivery Platform

CoSine's solution includes the IPSX(TM) family of Service Processing Switches, carrier-class products that marry scalable computing, switching, and routing hardware with an open architecture operating system and market-leading application software. The platform also includes the InVision(TM) Service Management System (SMS), and the InGage(TM) Customer Network Management (CNM) system. This solution enables Service Providers to create, manage, and deliver value-added IP services to enterprise customers, who in turn can monitor and control their services over the public IP network.

CoSine's platform is designed to support managed, network-based IP application services such as IPSec and Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) VPNs; Check Point's VPN-1 and FireWall-1; Network Associates Application Proxy Gauntlet Firewalls; McAfee WebShield Virus Scanning; IP-Enabled Frame Relay, Frame Relay to IPSec Interworking and Frame Relay over IPSec; Secure Routed Private Networks, Secure DSL; Secure Virtual LAN; URL filtering; virtual routing; and more.
