Asia Metals Focus: China aims to open Shanghai gold mkt Jan 1

Hong Kong, June 4 (BridgeNews) - The People's Bank of China (PBOC) aims to open China's first gold market in Shanghai on Jan. 1, 2002, if a trial trading system can be switched on in the new market in October-December 2001, an official source in Beijing told BridgeNews Monday. The PBOC, the country's central bank holding a monopoly on gold, has assigned China Foreign Exchange Transaction Market (CFETM) in Shanghai to set up the gold market, he said. ( Story .2016 )
