To: ThirdEye who wrote (151046 ) 6/5/2001 3:34:20 PM From: CYBERKEN Respond to of 769670 The contemporary version of the 19th century snake oil salesman is the "concerned" scientist, who hangs his PhD on the wall and then proceeds to peddle left-wing crap on a generally ignorant public which has been conditioned never to question "expertise", no matter how absurd the information is that they are being spoon-fed. The global warming fraud and the anti-biotech movement are only two of the massive scams that have been produced by this pool of worthless "intellectuals", who spend their time honoring each other with awards so that the pretense of their "expertise" will continue to be unquestioned. But as the snake oil salesmen used to say, "It sure beats working for a living." That this phenomenon is possible is indicative of the core rot of the West's intellectual institutions, where it is considered more important to attack the "corrupt" productive sectors of society than to pursue truths, which have been officially declared "subjective", anyway. This corruption of our culture's centers of "higher learning" has contributed to the spread of ignorance among the general population, as well as the intellectual bankruptcy of the media, and the passing on of the rot to our core beliefs through first the promotion, and now the legal enforcement, of political "correctness". It is simply politically incorrect to challenge global warming-so you do not... You are a product of this general cultural decline, and you are perfectly content to swallow whole the myths that are produced-because it makes you "feel" like a free thinker. Fool is actually too kind a word to describe you, but you can certainly take confidence in the fact that you are in no way unique. The potential danger to you will come when the inevitable renaissance falls on you like a ton of bricks. I hope the damage is minimal, but don't forget that the world has and always will punish idiots, at least in the longer run...
