let me help you.

did it ever occur to you that we can give an approximate figure based on the size of discoveries? i think the 90% figure is based upon the premise that all the extremely large oil finds were discovered long ago, (logically) because the bigger they are the easier they are to spot. since technology for discovering new oil continually improves yet the actual discoveries are declining in size, i'm sure someone smarter than the both of us plotted all the data and did some statistical analysis and came up with a figure.
