Jim, RE: <Dual Durons? Most of the benches I saw yesterday had a single 1.2 Athlon beating a dual Duron 850 set up soundly.
Why would someone want a dual Duron system?>

Overclock the heck out of a pair of Duron 950s and stick them to the MP board? Just treat them like Celeron 300a?

panic

Jim: As Alan Smith says at AMDZONE, a dual Duron System would mean "affordable SMP for the masses"

Jim a follow up on Dual Durons and why:

From the Anandtech article- This echos AmdZone's commentary

Another golden nugget to keep an eye on is the Duron. If AMD can ramp up the speed of the Duron, it would make for a great low-cost DB server platform; especially if 760MPX motherboards eventually hit the $200 price point

Jim, Re: "Why would someone want a dual Duron system?"

There would be a lot of headroom for future system upgrades through simple CPU upgrades. This won't happen with $500 760MP motherboards but if/when they drop towards the $200-250 range this would be very attractive to me. Particularly a board that provided for some overclocking. Durons are cheap and I keep a spare on the shelf just in case...
