That's an old link CB. Since then, Clinton signed up to the restrictive trade on sheep. The WTO received the complaints and recently found in favour of the sheep sellers. No, there wasn't dumping or subsidized exports. nzherald.co.nz
nzherald.co.nz

It does sound funny to sneak sheep over the border! Usually, rustlers try to steal sheep and somebody sneaking them in cheap would be welcomed with open arms. Sheep eaters in the USA should be thrilled if Kiwis were stupid enough to subsidize exports. The USA should accept all such subsidies with open arms. The USA producers of sheep could go on to producing buffalo or emus if they can't compete with New Zealand.

Since there are about 40 million sheep in Kiwiland and only 4 million humans, it is quite a big deal to us if the USA with 280 million humans and not many sheep doesn't let us sell them to American sheep eaters.

'The USA restricts all sorts of things. For example the USA is illegally restricting sheep imports from New Zealand and Australia and is being dragged before the World Trade Organisation for
breaching trading rules.'

Try softwood lumber and Canada. Now I know that Americans aren't big softwood lumber eaters, but mix it with cheese curds and gravy, and what have you got LOL. ;o)
Quite a big issue out west actually, where all that Canadian natural gas is LOL.

Hi CB, here is one way of viewing US trade policy ...

(a) we want to have a strong dollar
(b) so we can buy lots of your things
(c) but if you are too successful because of this policy, we will restrict your import
(d) however, we still want you to buy our export, at the high rate
(e) such as cigarettes, but not Aegis destroyers

I am wearing my Taiwan hat today:0)
