During the mid-Seventies, Southern Pacific RailRoad fired up an interstate microwave route that became SPCC, and then Sprint. At the time the largest microwave outfits were Microwave Communications Inc. (MCI), SPCC, US Transmission Systems (USTS) and Eastern Microwave Inc (EMI). SPCC was an all-microwave radio transmission company (heavy reseller of Bell private lines, as the others were, as well) before they put in their national fiber footprint, which at the time (mid-to-late-eighties), was said by them to be the first one of its kind [remember the pin-drop network] to go in all fiber coast to coast.
