My little story from a couple of weeks ago on the end of the easing from the fed. Just to reinforce the idea of being careful.

Well, I think that we all agree that OMD is a brilliant mofo, so no surprise that he came up with that prophetic piece.
I was reading something that FredEkrueger wrote on his Flaws thread where Greenie was talking about the weakness in the economy....it sounded very much like greenie telegraphing another cut. I think I mentioned it before, but it seems like greenie is holding a gun to our collective head and saying "If you guys don't start buying stuff, I am going to cut rates again". It reminds me of the old Monty Python skit with the Piranha brothers where, early in their career of thuggery when the didn't have things just right, one of their threats to people who they were robbing was "if you don't give us the money, we won't break your leg".

What I mean by this can be demonstrated by a personal anecdote. Mrs. McKie and I are looking to buy a new house. Since Greenie has telegraphed that we are going to get lower rates, we are going to wait a few months for the rate cuts to work their way through the system. In other words, the promise of another rate cut is acting as a disincentive to my buying. It's kinda like a store saying they are going to have a big sale in a week. It is very likely that this will hurt sales the week prior to the sale.

Frankly, I think that Greenie is like the worst of us retail investors. He was patient and waiting to see if the big bad bear was as vicious as he looked (last autumn) and didn't start pulling the trigger until the bear was mauling him. Once he saw that the bear had started walking toward him and was within striking distance, he should have taken careful aim and put the farker down. If one bullet didn't do it, another carefully aimed bullet (rate cut) could have done it.

And now that the bear has mauled the crap out of him and is chewing on some berries with his back turned away from him, Greenie starts firing wildly at the bear and emptying his clip instead of waiting to see if the bear will retreat on his own if he lies still. And with his clip empty, he damn well better hope that he nailed that bear in the heart so that he can't come back and finish the job....or even worse, that another bear doesn't get attracted to all of the commotion and meander over to catch an easy meal.
