They certainly are all those things R~and GZ... I wonder what our civilization would have been like without our furry friends.... Since dogs always seem to lower our blood pressure and come over and just listen to us no matter what....if we hadn't had them around, our civilization probably wouldn't be around either. Society most probably would have killed each other long ago..

Seriously, it would be an interesting study to see how many serious criminals have had dogs as pets, when they did the crime. My bet is not many had pets as friends.

Some cultures don't allow animals in their houses.

I've seen their houses, and an animal would only add an improvement. It might smell better for a start.
