The Nikon Coolpix 880 also requires a non-standard battery type...245 lithium...or of course Nikon will sell you a Nikon-labelled lithium-ion rechargeable battery and charger for $100+.

The way the Coolpix 880 is constantly microfocusing, no wonder this thing eats batteries...the lens is constantly moving!!

Yup. That Canon S20's 2CR5 NiMH battery upgrade is a big disappointment. My old nikon950 with AA NiMH lasts 2x as long as this puppy. And the price difference is fairly depressing too.

My recommendation right now is to not buy the Canon S20 despite its smaller size.
