Hey Mish, I believe many of those calls to be hedges against short positions. With the court ruling expected soon, you have to cover yourself on the upside even if you think the overall market direction is down. If you're short, it's prudent to cover yourself with out-of-the money calls as cheap insurance against things getting out of hand in the other direction. Just my opinion. I've seen it many times. MSFT never makes it's max pain, but it may do so this time, or even overshoot it and go lower.
