They go to the river for purification...they have
been doing it for over 2200 yrs in a row ...
maybe longer .

You know the psalm " gather at the river " ?
They invented it .

One sees God in the Universe , and eventually
one sees God beyond it . Just like from elementary
sciences you first study you see & learn the overview basic disciplines ,
and later on , when your ready you see the physics
underlying those other realities . More and
more is known.

Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism deal more with what is known
to a person , depending on that level of developement
and state his soul is in . You can see as much
directly proportionate to your preparations , devotion
and personal sacrifices . One finally see's the
play of the world within himself and there
lies the source of all that obscures his view.

You know the ones: the hatreds , lust , jealousies , the laziness , covetnous , the "puffing " up , and fear.
The first and most important Law ,
God gave was ----> Ahimsa or
non-harming of other sentient creatures.
That is an ancient law , the first.

Are they sure about the ritual of bathing as
a divine means of purification ?

As much or more than as any in Islam going round the Ka'ba. Or any Jew in Synagogue or Christian in their
church singing psalms .

a lovely ritual , really ...I can think of none finer.
hope they are doing it for millineums to come .

;-)
