I think you're very right, I'm glad our dog barks at anything passing by the house for the very same reason you stated... he probably thinks he's only doing his beta male job by warning the pack of a perimeter threat, I'm the alpha male and my wife is the alpha female... when the passerby eventually passes by, our dog probably thinks he saved our lives and maintained the integrity of the pack... this probably makes him the hero in his eyes and he feels he earns his keep and ranking in the pack, a bonding thing... the human family is the pack... I think dogs actually think we're dogs also... and if we're not dogs, we're probably the next best thing..... GZ
