best do a search for Matthew R. Simmons on the net...i wanted to post the link to you, but can't find it. he put out a report last year comparing today's energy situation to the 70's (i.e. all relevant data points are compared). i'm sure it's still available somewhere on the net.

here is ONE Simmons report, but that's not the one i'm referring to above. still, it contains valuable info:
