I think your analogy forces the question, though. Isn't it different when the 'films' are generated by the audience, with everyone equally able - if they wish - to take the role of producer with responsibility for 'hiring' on their own films... and there's no extra cost for any of the new films... and those films did not even exist when you first entered? Especially when those excluded (not hired - although they're still free to watch) are generally those who have either had personal disputes with the producer, or are seen as likely to provoke discord and go off-script too often?

(adherence to the TOU - now, there's a thought <g>)

We here on SI have paid to be here, and many of us paid before there was such a thing as a moderated thread

The threads have always been moderated through the terms of use. Allowing each thread to represent particular sub-communities of SI was a practical decision. They still all fall under the moderation of SI admin.
