Hewlett-Packard Warns IT Slowdown
Is Going Global

PALO ALTO (Reuters) - Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HWP - news)
warned on Wednesday that the slowdown in information
technology was now becoming global, leading the computer and
printer maker to be more cautious in its own financial outlook.

In a statement issued concurrently with its semi-annual analyst
meeting, Hewlett-Packard said May sales in both consumer and enterprise markets in all
regions were soft, spreading beyond the U.S. and European markets.

Hewlett-Packard said it was now more cautious regarding its revenue guidance of flat to
down 5 percent for the fiscal third quarter, ending July 31.

The company said it was putting additional expense reductions in place to increase the
probability of achieving the analysts' consensus earning per share estimate of 23 cents for
the third quarter.

``While it is still early in the quarter, May was softer than expected, and we are now
addressing what is clearly becoming a global slowdown,'' said Carly Fiorina, chairman,
president and chief executive. ``We are taking additional steps to generate revenues and
reduce costs while continuing to implement our long-term growth strategy.''
