I don't think niaspan reduces niacin flushing issues that much, I do think they were very clever to market it as a once at night therapy.

4. Do not worry if you experience flushing

Niacin sometimes causes redness, warmth, tingling, and/or itching on the face, neck, chest, and back. This natural reaction, known as flushing, is caused by the expansion of small blood vessels close to the surface of the skin. It is a signal that NIASPAN has been absorbed into the bloodstream. If flushing occurs, it usually happens 2 to 4 hours after taking NIASPAN and lasts about an hour.

Studies have shown that most patients taking NIASPAN will experience flushing at some time during therapy, usually when therapy is first started or when the dose is increased or changed.

In most patients flushing is mild to moderate. In some patients, flushing may be more intense and additional symptoms, such as rapid or pronounced heartbeat or dizziness, may occur. If the flushing wakes you up and you wish to get out of bed, take your time and get up slowly--especially if you start to feel faint or feel dizzy, or if you take blood pressure medication.

Fortunately, NIASPAN offers a special extended-release formula that minimizes flushing and ONCE-AT-NIGHTâ„¢ dosing so that most flushing happens while you are asleep. NIASPAN clinical studies show that, over time, flushing episodes usually are experienced less than once per month.
