RE: I remember throwing that line at him (followed
immediately by a hamburger, which splattered all over the wall).

Well, IMHO, that behaviour should definitely earn disrespect. BTW, was that hamburger bought by your father. If so, then he probably did deserve respect.

Excellent! If that were shorter, I'd print it and post it on the wall.

"I'm simply talking about how we react to those people we pass on the street or who move into our neighborhoods or share our place of business." As per our earlier discussion, wouldn't it be nice to know that the people on the street or who move into our neighborhoods weren't on early release or wearing electronic ankle bracelets as a result of overcrowding in the prisons.

Very good, but I would be stronger about it. I do not think that a human being has to earn respect. I think he deserves respect because he is human. He has to do something to lose respect. Respect is not admiration. It is a reasonable minimum of regard........

Wish I had time now to reply, I agree with much or most of what you say but don't have time to get into depth on some refinements. Hope I have time tonight, but this thread moves so fast I may not get to it. If I don't, it's not because I don't appreciate your reply, but because -- well, I haven't yet figured out how to get an extra 4 hours a day out of my life for SI!
