So here we are... two missing links. <g> My missing link faster than your missing link which proves ... that we have 2 missing links or 1 missing link times 2, or 2 faulty recalls, or 1 faulty recall, or don't prove nuttin .... This all gets a little confusing and the FOMA site is a little ambiguous. There are (or will be) 2 different versions of phones being offered for FOMA "Introductory Service" in addition to the FOMA P2401 PC-card that permits "real-time transmission of large-volume data, offering high-speed packet data communications with maximum downlink throughputs of 384kbps and 64kbps" : 1.) The FOMA N2001 (NEC) that lets you "talk and use i-mode or various applications at the same time". 2.) The visual-oriented FOMA P2101V (Panasonic from Matsushita) which "employs a camera function and large color screen to answer demands for advanced multimedia communications" . This is the phone that is delayed one month and from what I can tell it is for 64 kbps circuit-switched data. Question mark is on the NEC which is being used by BT Manx in circuit switched mode only at 64 kbps as they iron out the kinks on Isle of Man. The revised FOMA site no longer gives a complete spec on the phone (and this is where I think I saw it specified as 64 kbps cs and 384/64 ps initially before the remodel, and it may be where you saw your version as well). Site is here: foma.nttdocomo.co.jp If you drill down to "FOMA SERVICE/i-mode" at the bottom of the page, the NEC is depicted and it shows packet data communications with maximum downlink throughputs of 384kbps and 64kbps uplink. I hardly think that this conclusively shows that the phone is communicating in that mode, but it certainly seems that is how it is being represented. Would you agree with me that if this phone is limited to 64 kbps cs that DoCoMo is FOS, and conversely those that have been saying that DoCoMo will only be offering 64 kbps are full of FUD? Actually, given Slacker's clip I guess we could probably say that someone is one third full of FUD already. <g> BTW: Thank you very much for rooting for the Sixers. Turns out we needed that one extra fan to break up the "fo, fo, fo, fo" sweep (as Moses Malone would say). Were you around when "Dr. J" led the Sixers to a sweep of the Lakers in the 83 NBA finals before founding Qualcomm. <ggg> - Eric -
