why does VZ Wireless need a dual mode CDMA2000/WCDMA ASIC

They dont have enough spectrum to build-out a nationwide W-CDMA network....and even if they did, they couldnt build-out the network simulataneosly nationwide. The roaming costs would be crippling in the interim. It is the same reason that W-CDMA/GSM handsets are needed in Europe.
