I got a PM: <...As for your post....yikes!!!!! Interesting and appropriate that the letters for Information Technology (IT) can also be read as "it". Wasn't there a horror film once entitled "It"? Your view sounds pretty horrible to me. But then, truth is stranger than fiction...no?>

It's not as bad as what we've had in the 20th century [and before]. Conscripts were drafted into armies against their will and sent off to shoot or be shot in futile power-grabbing wars of conquest. Our lives are still subsumed in nationalist servitude, with every dinky little bit of what we might do circumscribed by laws "for the greater good" and "for our own good".

Our lives are not our own already. Our boss will be different, that's all.

In the 20th century;

Jews gassed by the million
Same for others who weren't approved by the Nazis
Kurds were gassed
Armenian genocide
Famines forced on the Ukraine
Children fried alive in Hiroshima
Japanese had fun in Nanking [they had a weird sense of fun]
Lt Calley and Bob Kerrey had fun killing women and children
Napalm stank on children's flesh, but they were better dead than red
"Over the Top" was the cry for millions in WWI now feeding the flowers of Flanders
Rwanda, Cambodia, Mao, Stalin, slavery, the Gulag, cannibalism, torture, religious wars, bureaucracy, taxes ...

I'm not too worried at all about IT compared with what we've had. I think it will be my friend [or symbiotic survival means if not friend]. The human species is dangerous and threatens me more than protects me.

PS: American Indians, American slavery, Maori cannibalism, Saddam Hussein, Adolf Hitler, Pakistan's religious separation from India, Communism, Fidel Castro, Kent State, Tienanmen, Waco, Chile's missing people, Yugoslavian ethnic cleansing, Prussian invasion and the Paris siege, Napoleon's invasions and his sieges, mayhem across Africa, Fijian racism, Kiwiland apartheid...it's a long list...add your own...

<...How cellphones are forming a worldwide web along with remote sensing, such as graviton.com . How this web is forming a stupendously huge and powerful neural net. How this neural net is figuring out how the universe works, how DNA can be descrambled, how encryption can be decrypted, how weather in Congo can be predicted, how to develop ITself further, how to protect ITself...rant contd...>

Stephen Hawking thinks so too Mq.

Here IT comes.
