well, the Ottoman hordes tried to shoot down the belfry of the church in our village in 1683, and the cannonball is still embedded in it...i can't help but be reminded of it when i pass the church. may Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa rot in hell! and Sultan Suleiman the Second too, while we're at it...(that one tried it in 1529 , har!)

Agreed... I was just chronicling reality... same with your examples.... it happens, now what do we do given these realities. This thought seems to be missing from much of the middle east debate... example: someone said "look at these people [palastinians], sending children with bombs and to do fighting" the implication being they must be just dreadful people... how about this: "wow, they must be REALLY upset to do such things to their own children... what can we do"
