Albert,

<"amd is clearly loosing market share" - as our most un-biased and
trusted Paul and other intelabees stated

as SV pointed out " Intel's pricing actions will at least slow the rate
of AMD's market share gains.">

Intel took the industry by the dramatic price cuts early in the quarter. There is little doubt in my mind that AMD lost some market share during early parts of the quarter. The question is if that was madeup during the latter half of the quarter. I think the jury is out on that one. I wouldn't be surprised to see a small swing in market share either ways.

Due to the price wars this quarter it is entirely possible that both AMD and Intel ASPs are down about 10% compared to Q2. With no one side having compelling competitive advantage, price becomes the primary weapon. This (or Q3) will probably first of the many tough quarters of pitched battles that AMD and Intel longs face.

It is going to be a war out there for the next year or two and the only sufferers will be the die-hard longs (or "suckers" as Paul would say).

Chuck

It was just reported on CNBC (Ron Insana) that AMD has reported that the PC chip market is stable, turning and that they were still adding market share....
Wait for details...

albert, if you can contact Scott Randall, you might tell him to read Anand's Athlon MP review at anandtech.com

His statement,

initial versions of Athlon MP
will only be at 1 GHz and 1.2 GHz and will lag the performance of faster speed
multiprocessor capable processors from Intel.

...is inconsistent with the reality that dual Athlon MP 1.2's beat dual Xeon 1.7's in every server benchmark and in 3/4 of workstation benchmarks.
