He was one of the scientists doing the work, and he is not happy with the summary or the way it was reported. He is one of the leading climatologists in the world. Whatever may have happened in England in the last decade, he is referring to the global mean.......

well, it may be empirical evidence, but in the UK over the last decade...
- the warmest temperatures since records began (we're talking ~1700) have been in 8 of the last 10 years
- warmest winters since records began

In addition to any possible inaccuracies in old records there is the factor that recorded temperatures would rise at many locations without any global warming. Many areas that where rural are now in cities or dense suburbs. The effect of people and their machines and construction on the local temperature can be large even without any CO2 caused global warming. Satellite readings should avoid this source of error but the record from satellites doesn't go nearly as far back and doesn't show the same warming trend that terrestrial records show. Another factor to consider is that the UK could be warmer without the world being warmer, and the world could have a warm year or decade or two just from normal climate variations without any human caused global warming trend.

So why is it that so many other scientists of equal or greater repute are convinced, following their research, of the opposite - or at least, convinced that global warming is real is a danger, is worsening and will continue to do so unless action is taken now?
