You mentioned in an earlier post that you didn't consider the costs of execution a meaningful objection to the death penalty. I think that you are underestimating the costs. One cost I think you underestimate is the dissension cost. We have a lot of conflict over it just as we do over abortion. Abortion is much more complicated and wide spread to lend itself to solution and so the dissension will continue. The death penalty is much easier. After all, we only execute a handful of people a year. Seems to me that if we had death sentences but no executions we satisfy a whole lot of people. No, it's not clean or pretty, but I just hate to see all this argument over a handful of executions.
