John, I would bet the people that work for the companies are less passionate than the people on this thread.

I would bet you are right! When I talked directly to AMD about a year ago, I was surprised the learn how close Intel and AMD workd together on the "remarked" processor problem. On common problems there is at least some degree if not a lot of cooperation.

Kindest regards,
CrazyMan

Intel and AMD are just a bunch of folks trying to make a living peddling microprocessors."

Is this what happened to AMD in 1999 before the Athlon was introduced with Intel's predatory pricing on the low end processors? I think we can all agree that it would have been in Intel's best interest if AMD had gone under in 1999. As it is now, AMD is competitive and profitable where Intel hurts in the higher end performance chips. Intel's profitability is suffering due to three factors: 1)PC slowdown, 2)reduced margins, and 3)Communications divisions. So far AMD has only made inroads in desktop, but with Athlon 4 and Athlon MP they are in the process of making a notable presence in notebooks and servers. I think competition has been good for all concerned, well at least for PC buyers and AMD stockholders.<ggg>
