>>Jobless Claims Climb Unexpectedly To Highest Level in Almost Nine Years

A WSJ.COM News Roundup

WASHINGTON -- Jobless claims unexpectedly rose last week to the
highest level in almost nine years as the weak labor market showed no sign
of recovery.

The number of U.S. workers filing first-time
applications for unemployment benefits rose
by 13,000 to 432,000 in the week that ended
Saturday, the Labor Department said.
Thursday's report put claims at their highest
level since September 1992, when 438,000
claims were logged.<<
