I'm not saying that there is NO other method ...
but I have no knowledge of one ....

the freshly opened window will nearly always jump to the top if it is left on the screen without minimizing it as far as I know ...

I didn't mean to imply that you didn't know how to use the minus button, btw ....

depending upon the ie version .... I have several going on different machines ... the newly minimized screen will either go from lower case letters to Caps ...
or
will turn from dark blue to gray ....

this is how it works for me ... colors or actions could be different for you ...

but
to restate ....

minimize the freshly opening window is the only method I know to keep it from jumping to the top ....

P.S. to last post:

I just tried the minimizing trick, and it worked. Thanks, and I will continue using this method until and unless something better comes along.

P.P.S. It seems that not every website causes the power struggle. For instance, neither SI nor Yahoo do. Freerealtime.com, which I use a lot, is the primary culprit. It also happens at ellisislandrecords.org [an amazing site]. So, maybe it is less of a browser thing than and more of a sneaky webmaster trick.
