Why? Have you done your own testing on an HDR network? Has Metricom tested 1x and HDR? Where are they getting these numbers from?
IMO, this really is a silly argument. Most engineers in the industry know that networks can be designed for higher or lower data rates within limits. That's why you hear the peak rates quoted a lot. It's very possible that you may get an average of 300kbps from Verizon and I'll get 1Mbps from Sprint. It will really depend on the carrier's investment in high speed data services.
