Gopher

did not listen to the cc but from bloomberg headlines - number of cpus sold revised down (SSB), GM at the low end, expenses within the range, acquisition expenses are higher but intel refused to comment, revenue is slightly below mid-range

if gm is at low end, and number of cpus sold is lower so how did intel managed to get the revenue and profits to slightly lower than mid range

Regards
-Albert

Gopher,

re: <<There were several rumours of Intel deliberately channel stuffing, giving discounts for taking shipment by freight rather than air. Did any analysts ask that question or did they all behave themselves like good lapdogs?>>

Even as you speak, CNBC is reporting that Joe Osha (who obviously has a position to defend) is asking at the CC about how much product is sitting on shelves waiting to go into machines. INTC apparently answered to the effect that they have no way to accurately tell what the status of aftermarket inventories are. One of the things that those on this thread must admit, by their own observations, INTC is a master of fudging uncomfortable facts, and influencing the street to spin things their way. They seem to have successfully done this today, and both INTC and AMD have benefitted in AH. Interesting to see how things play from here, given that the sector is moving on hopes and perceptions of better times, rather than current fundamentals.

Yes, IIRC Oshua asked about it (not directly, of course). Bryant responded that he doesn't expect that their customers are building up inventory but admitted that it was difficult to determine that. He also said that he expected inventories for Intel to be slightly up at the end of the quarter.
