the lunar transits do have an influence on human psychology - the why can't be explained, but empirically, 'moon madness' is something that does exist. the word 'lunatic' surely developed from observation of this effect. however, scientific studies don't support the above. what they show is that a high percentage of people BELIEVES in the strange effects of the full moon (to the point where nurses have asked for special 'lunar pay' insisting working during a full moon is much more stressful than on 'normal' days). it is in fact specifically the medical community that has perpetuated the myth. the only slight statistically measurable effect that has been found is a small uptick in admissions to psychiatric hospitals during full moons, and although the majority of obstetricians firmly believes pregnant women are more likely to deliver during full moons, no firm proof supporting this belief could be found. BUT...there is a correlation between the market and the lunar calendar. and as Chris Carolan shows in his book 'the spiral calendar' it is so significant that it has to be more than just coincidence. Carolan did in fact predict several important market turns in some cases YEARS in advance based on the system he designed. he only confused highs and lows occasionally, but he got the turns right. the most remarkable event that seems to support Carolan's thesis of an 'outside influence' on the markets is the panic of 1873. when it began in NY, the transatlantic telegraph cable was down. so no-one in Europe knew in 'real time' (actually with a slight delay) what was happening. and yet, the continental markets crashed and bottomed at exactly the same time as the NY market. Carolan also showed that gold has an uncanny tendency to spike into new moons. now whether there is something to this or not, many people believe there is. entire trading strategies have developed around perceived lunar effects on the market (which of course are all based on rather non-scientific empiricism, and may lead to self-fulfilling prophecy situations). see for instance: programtrading.com be aware btw. that recent problems with communications equipment can not be blamed on the full moon, but according to experts, it is Mercury being in 'retrograde' that's responsible. -vbg-
