Poor little richie, can't force people to use public transportation. Keep trying. One day you may take the right to own a car away from all of us...

Have another in the meantime,

~SB~

rich. Most of the USA lacks the density of population to use mass transit effectively. There are some corridors where it is used well, the Boswash corridor being the main one. There you will find many using commuter trains and busses as well as subways.
In the rest of the USA mass transit is a lot slower and less densely used because it is a lot slower than a personal car. Remember you need volume to one place for mass trans to work. if the people have to transfer 1-2 times then care are faster as they are point to point and the time saved is worth more than the cost of parking etc. People paid $20 an hour will pay $20 a day to park their car if that saves them an hour of standing in a bus/train etc.

Now Hong Kong. it works well, very dense population. all work places downtown are within a 5 minute walk from a subway. new territories, slower, but stuill good. cars are limited. Want to buy a new car....find and old car and export it and get a permit for a new car. Still roads are crowded there as well.
