flats, that is an excellent analogy. it is so true. i'm heading toward third, but i was born on third base. ;-) to say i hit a triple would be entirely too self serving for my taste.

i'm not talking cold cash, either. my parents provided financial security (they are wealthy, though they don't seem to get much satisfaction kicking down to the kids unless there are strings attached and i don't play that game) and a focus on education. while the latter was relatively weakly applied by my standards, it was there and it was something to build on.

i didn't have to worry about my next meal and i didn't grow up in a neighborhood where nfl linebackers are scared to visit, let alone live.

but, alas, everyone isn't so secure in themselves to admit that good fortune played a role in their development.
