By the way, I used to be an anarchist (syndicalist, more strictly). I believed that the proper organization of society was through the decentralization of authority, and the democratic control of enterprises by their workers; that cities, towns, and counties should be the primary territorial authorities; that association among enterprises and territories should be through several layers of confederation; that the use of coercion should be minimal, and virtually all business should be conducted by free agreements reached among enterprises and/or territorial units. I believed that almost all offices should be filled by election, at several levels, and that both management and bureaucracy should be minimized. Ultimately, I decided that all of this was impractical in its pure form, but you can see how it was not a long slide from Left to Right under the circumstances.........
