Maybe some Catholics are anti-Semitic, and I just never ran into them.' No, you're just lucky or maybe you were a bit naive CB. Bigotry and prejudice are universal, not Duke nor Protestants have the market cornered there. I went to Catholic school for all of elementary and high school (a Catholic prep school for high school). From kindergarten through grade 3 I went to a Catholic Chinese Mission school which also took in some local English speaking children., run by Catholic nuns. Each morning my younger sister and I would get on the school bus and have a fight with a group of pure Chinese children who each day tried to make go to end of the almost empty bus. At school each day was a battle, The Chinese looked down on us because we were mixed blood and the whites looked down on us because we were mixed blood. I don't look oriental but my sisters do. Years later I found 'Black Like Me' very ironic. In high school we temporarily had a Jewish fellow as we need a goalie for the Senior hockey team LOL. In Quebec where I was raised (lots of French in me too), schools, until very recently were aligned along religious as well as linguistic lines. The Catholic schools took Catholics period and the Protestant schools took everybody else. The Jews were much maligned in Quebec society as throughout history as usurers etc. Those Catholic (and Protestant) kings certainly wanted them around to finance their battles though. Protestantism came about partly by way of the intolerance of the Catholic Church and lots of politics to boot of course. Like any other organised religion it's been perverted by bureaucrats and demagogues etc. along the way. About 10 years ago, the controller at one of my customers (a Chinese) used to complain to me about all the 'blacks' that used to come into her husband's business, a restaurant. They never caused any problems, she just didn't like them, but their money was ok. Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves... Cher A few years ago I was in hospital for some surgery. During my recovery I had one very pleasant (and attractive nurse to whom I enjoyed speaking very much, what can I say she was cute). One day I was describing the problems a technician had encountered taking a blood sample from me. She immediately offered "Don't let one of those three eyes touch you". There were many Indian women working in that capacity at the hospital. She suddenly became very ugly to me as I explained that it was a white woman that had encountered the difficulty and an Indian woman recommended by the first technician who finally completed the task (painlessly :0). The fellow in the next bed was an Indian gentleman (Patel as I recall) with whom I spoke a fair bit. One day an orderly came into the room to clean up. Mr. Patel ceased talking until the orderly left and then informed me that he hated those blacks. What happened to the Mary Tyler Moore show 'Love is all around....' by the way, I am a Church going Catholic but like anything one has to learn to ingest the good and expectorate the bad (or sometimes just plain silly). regards Kastel
