You have no idea whether the threat of the death penalty has any impact in these situations. It's pure guesswork.

If even a single murder has been deterred because of the death penalty, I'm in favor of it.

And if innocent people are wrongly put to death, you're still in favor of it. We know that. Others of us aren't so comfortable with your math, though.
