Japan's Cell Phone Sales Total 10.8 Million Units in 4th Qtr
June 8, 2001 (TOKYO) -- Domestic sales of cellular phones came to 10.8 million units in the October-December quarter of 2000, about a third of the total sales volume for all of 1999, according to survey results released Thursday by high-tech market research firm GartnerGroup Japan KK.



Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. had a 26 percent share of the domestic market. NEC Corp. came in second at 24.7 percent, and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. followed at 15.1 percent.

Mobile phones shipped to the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan, reached 35.77 million units.
