"I am opposed to the death penalty."

I am in favor of the death penalty because I consider it the most humane resolution for persons who have gone beyond a certain limit. History has shown that some criminal acts are irreconcilable to society. There is no consequence that recompenses society or that could be considered a fair and just punishment for the perpetrator. Of course you know that I believe that there is a justice that transcends death but that is a separate issue.

The problem is we as a society have an extremely poor system for adequately determining who justly deserves to recieve the death penalty so I am against its application in our justice system but not in principle.

The current alternative of long term or life imprisonment system is a joke. Yesterday, Neocon recommended an alternative that amounts to banishment to a detainment territory that removes the perps from US jurisdiction but does not free them to maraud through the world. To me it amounts to a fate worse than death. Most people think it is letting the criminals have what they want. If so, it is a win win solution. The criminals get out from under our society's rule of law and the consequence becomes a determent to people who want to live under our societies guidelines. Since they are absolutely banished from society with no appeal to return they are as dead to us, without the act of taking their life. What do you think?
