>>Okay, really done posting now.<<

You don't have to stop. It's interesting. But what time is it where you are, anyway? Something like 9:25 a.m. Saturday? And in German, it's about 11:25 p.m. Friday. While in Hong Kong, it's 5:25 a.m., also Saturday.

Here, it's 5:25 p.m.

Maurice, I don't think many in this thread are afraid of the future. We are just waiting to buy it at a much more favorable P/E. Meanwhile hedging with a little gold isn't such a bad idea. It's pretty, it's scarce, and, most importantly, it's at generation lows in dollar terms. You know, buy low, sell high?

Maurice,

Ahh but WE do have common interests. To ensure that WE as a collective entity are paramount over all else. It's just that some of US are more paramount than others :0) Part of man's problem and his success, is that this is only our penultimate goal. The ultimate goal is exemplified in the following example.

Lions coming upon cheetahs will kill the cubs. Not to eat, to ensure dominance of their 'section' of DNA. Within that same lion society a male deposing another male will typically dispatch all young offspring of his former rival so he can get down to business ensuring his DNA's dominance. The nature of the beast.

We're just better at it than Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My !
IT would not be evolution, it would be supplantation by a totally alien (yes of our own construction) life form.

re: your doom and glom links: I often get Jehova's witnesses at my door......... They are always warning me of the end times with many examples from current events. Because of 'IT' I am always already informed of these events (for the most part). These things have always gone on and in some fashion probably always will. The nature of the beast. We just hear about them more often and more quickly now.
Of course 150 years ago conversing with someone in Kiwiland from here in the Frozen North or just getting news of the world was a time consuming and arduous if not impossible process. Thank IT for that.

'You don't feel sad about the demise of Neanderthals'
Primarily because I'm not a Neanderthal, unless my wife is angry at me of course LOL
Then again in some situations I've found the best counsel is to say to myself ' What would a caveman do ?' :o)

'Financial Collapse of 2001 gold holders who are trying to resuscitate Aztec'
More accurately 16th century Portuguese and Spanish society ?

'Meanwhile, an ever-increasingly powerful internet is proving very handy for people who can act symbiotically with it.'
But you've numbered their days also, have you not.

While I agree with you that the changes brought about by the net and technology (and soon at that) will be astounding I still think that mankind will manage to relegate IT to tool status. Man is a pretty virulent creature, mainly because of his preeminent 'What's in it for me' attitude.

We're developing the the story line for the next Hollywood sci-fi blockbuster.
Well I'm going to stop taking all this at face value and go and play with two little states of consciousness I've helped create.

regards
Kastel
