>>Is that good or bad? Do you want Slovenia to be part of the EU? <<

That's two separate questions.

Q1 - it's bad, oth a let's-face-reality call - if Ireland/Irish (!) have qualms about it, then there's a few things that have to be rethought. Big questions at the moment floating in the air here, are the constitutional matters (division of power between the state members and Bruxelles, between the elected EU-parlament and the delegated (pork-barreled) council.

It's easy to poke fun at EU. There were tries to solve the tensions between parts of Europe using other ways and means - in 1812, 1871, 1914 and 1939 - probably left out a few.

Q2: Do you want Slovenia to be part of the EU? Slovenia is not standing in line with the tongue to the floor, salivating at the thought of subsidees starting to pour in (must say I got some smart and able schoolfriends;). OTH it would be a tiny but sensible addition to EU. One (mitigating!) Fact is nobody knows where this piece of land is - in public opinion poll here in Germany Slovenia rated behind Rumania and Bulgaria on the question "Do you want to see X join eu". Suits us just fine, we'll try to keep it this way - got our own problems to solve (aging population, structural unemployment etc) which nobody else would do anything about it. Selling the country and sending everybody into retirement is definitely not on our minds.

Putin and W are meeting for the first time in Ljubljana, so you'll be able to see my hometown from all kind of beautiful perspectives. Unfortunately I will not be able to join them (g).
