Miljenko, I actually agree in part. The business case/fundimentals always take 1st place with me, followed by financial health and trying to assess mgmt effectiveness in how they steward resources, choose products to move into trials, share proliferation, integrity....

And I agree events are very important - reason why I also asked in my response to the options question is there were any anticipated news events that could cause a spike. I have not followed any company carefully last 4 months - no time, which is why I kicked that back to the questioner.

I only use TA for identifying timing of entry/additions & when to take profits. It's been VERY effective for me there. I sold 90 % of my positions February 2000 when they & the market were WAY overbought, bought more shares of the same companies + added diversification. Timing was not perfict. Sold too soon (NAZ was in the 4,000 - 4,500 range) bought back too soon in Dec (NAZ 2,400 - 2,100) but did way better than total buy & hold.

Have also done accumulation trading with part of a position of companies I was a long time long on. Used overbought/oversold, retrace point, support /resistance to identify the points. Again, when I had the time & dicipline to use this approach, it worked well.

Use TA as a basis for buying? Never. Will also never again based on a broker recommendation.

2 weeks research is unusually short for me (I picked up on NBIX & REGN and started researching after reading comments from SI BT heavies such as you & Rick - thanks) lots of times I may follow for 6 months before I nibble.

The insights gleaned here, not only company & compound specific, but the evaluation principles are far more valuable than TA.

My point tho is that by learning a few simple TA principles & tools, folks can add to their gains & avoid some paper losses. FYI I'm not a heavy trader, especialy with my work demands - have not done a trade in 4 months.

IMSCO, Scott
