Considering that nForce supports PowerNow!, a battery-eating laptop could be produced soon. Since MSI claims to have a Crush11 motherboard in July, even very soon.

For now, however, the chipset will only be paired with microprocessors from Advanced Micro Devices Inc., due to technical and legal reasons. But Nvidia executives said a mobile version of the nForce was likely, and didn't rule out a product for Apple Computer Inc.'s Macintosh.

The key enhancement, Nvidia executives claimed, is that an onboard speculative preprocessor—essentially a level-3 cache for the microprocessor--will boost NForce system performance by about 10 to 15 percent

"NForce, we believe, will change the face of the computer platform," said Jeff Fisher, the senior vice-president of sales for Nvidia, Santa Clara, Calif.
