Not sure exactly what Alcatel sold. The 3Com products I am familiar with (NICs and ISDN routers) are tops in their area and pretty inexpensive. There is no question that 3Com is floundering about. What keeps me mildly interested is their still very healthy balance sheet and the apparently ruthless determination of Claflin to show a profit. It seems that the remaining 3Com products should be able to show a profit later this year, given the draconian cuts. They are all in rapidly growing areas. If there is a profit later this year, a triple from here is quite possible.

I do expect further weakness in the meantime though, with a return to the fours a distinct possibility, especially if the NASDAQ retests its lows.

ALA sold its *DSL* modem business, not its cable modem business.
