Good for a laugh too. Like April 2000 prices for Internet stocks. Now those are available.

Charles, you have to admit that the laptop Athlons were supposed to arrive at 800 MHz and when they did arrive (late) they were 1 GHz. Wasn't the orignal Duron laptop chip 800 MHz?

Chuck, Re: It would be nice if someone setsup a webpage that shows roadmaps from the industry players. It will be useful tool to measure management candor and execution skill in posterity.

That's a good idea. Maybe JC could set up a page for both AMD, Intel and VIA? (if he has the time) If he (or someone else) would update it once a month or so, that would give a very good overview about how things are going with the different companies.

RE:"One minor correction - that's Ford and not GM. One more roadmap from April of last year."

Just what did Ford complain about? The Corvette? <G>

I that that some here only remember the last slip from the point where the mustang was supposed to be released. Obviously there were slips before that. Take that into account and the Palomino is at least 6 months late.

OTOH, I've learned to take these roadmaps with a grain of salt. At best they are a rough estimate of the sequence of chip releases.
Intel is at least as bad or maybe even worse than AMD when you consider the likes of Williamette and Merced.
Sure would have been nice to have the Palomino 6 months ago though as lost time is rarely recovered in this industry.

As far as infrasturcture, you and I have complained vigorously about it for over a year. Now with AMDs 760, 760MP, SISs new 735 and Nvidias nforce plus the fact that VIA is promising to improve the KT133A now that they might lose some business, it appears things are about to improve drastically. Never mind the bad press about VIA.
